My X1/9
Description of the Fiat X1/9
The Fiat X1/9 is a mid-engined two-seater with a targa top that can be stored in the front luggage compartment. It was
originally designed as a sports car for the masses. It was produced
from 1974 to 1988. The X1/9 came stock with a single overhead
cam 1290 cc. engine
that was mounted transversely ahead of the rear axle line
and a four speed transmission until 1978.
There were 140,519 X1/9s produced by Fiat in this time.
This was not enough for Fiat so Bertone took over in 1982.
The
X1/9's after 1978 came with a 1489 cc. engine and a five speed
transmission.
X1/9's have four wheel independent
suspension with MacPherson struts. The brakes are disc, front and back.
It has rack and pinon steering. There is no power brakes or power steering
and all the instrumentation is analog, of course. The X1/9 has some
of the same parts as the Ferrari 308. It is easy to work on and can
be had for a song. I bought my silver X1/9 for $200.00 and fixed it
for $50.00. You too could own one of these great cars if
you act now! Just look through the classifieds for a Fiat
X1/9 and snatch it up. You will not regret it! If you have any questions about the Fiat X1/9, please email me.
